The Anime

The Anime consists of 26 episodes which cover all five chapters of the manga and the light novels up to Book 8. The story is continued in Book 9 of the light novel series.

The Novel Series

Mitsuru Yuki has written a light novel series for Shounen Onmyouji. The story told in the Anime covers up to Book 8 in the series and Book 9 picks up where the show leaves off.

At the arrival of the master of the manor, the small spirits ceased their clamoring and each stood politely at the wall, greeting Seimei with puffed out chests and refined posturing.

"Hello Lord Seimei! "

"You look as young as ever!"

"You should come visit us something."

Seimei signed at the gathered spirits before taking a seat next to Akiko.

"Lady Akiko, you look a bit pale, what have they said to you?"

Shounen Onmyouji Book 10 Ch2:2 The Abe house had been empty to begin with, and now its abject isolation washed over Akiko like never before. In her own home, in the hose of Fujiwara, there were occasionally days where she seldom saw anyone but her own servants. Even though the family members lived in different courtyards, she didn't feel isolated or lonely there. But the house of Abe was different... she had never felt so surrounded by the warmth of others.

"Good bye big brother !! " Mizu waved vigiorously as he and Musoru watched their departure. It was not until the young boys had become mere shapes in the distance that Masahiro finally turned his head to focus on the path ahead.

"So we're going...?"

"Yes, we'll set out tomorrow or the day after. "

"Did you tell the children ?" Taiin asked as she materialized beside Masahiro.

"Ah, yes.... I told them yesterday. They were sad, but I told them that we had family waiting, so there was no arguing it."

The letter that Narachika had sent home ended with a line that had left Masachika in shock for days. "Masahiro has lost his eyes..."

Losing one's eyes.... Masachika couldn't imagine.... it was worse than losing any other kind of spirit ability they possessed.

Spring descended out of nowhere and the day was warm and sunny. In general Guren didn't take much notice of the seasons, yet today he found himself observing the weather with an uncharacteristic optimism.

It had been nearly three weeks since he had rescued Masahiro from the Zhen and the fox spirit, and for the most part, things in the Abe household had resumed their usual calm.

He knelt beside the small body, his heart in his throat, his hands hovering over the trembling form as though he had lost track of himself.

Masahiro shook, gasping for air and clutching his chest.

Guren was trapped in limbo, uncertain what to do. Then the boy's eyes fluttered open and more tears escaped them.

"I'm alone…" he whispered, and the fear in his voice was fit to shatter the shikigami's spirit. "No one is coming… are they?"

Guren shook his head vehemently, wrapping his hands around the boy.

"You're not alone, Masahiro. I'm right here with you. I'm so sorry I let you go."

The youkai was a fox spirit called Gan. It met Seimei on the road home and tried to take off with him. Of course he had gotten nowhere close, the Shinshou had stepped in immediately and the fox was lucky to have escaped with its life. But as he bounded away, Gan shouted after Seimei: "My master will surely have my penance!"

"I assume this means that he failed his master in some way," Seimei explained quietly, his blue eyes squinted and tired. "By offering up a sacrifice, he believed he could atone for his mistake. But he could not have hoped to take me alive — not with the others by my side."
